How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Shape

One of the questions we are asked most at our East Gosford store is, "which gown will suit me?" The honest answer is that almost any style can work, as long as the proportions are right for you. Here is how we think about it when a bride steps onto the fitting podium.

Start with how you want to feel

Before we talk silhouettes, we ask what you want the gown to do. Do you want to feel soft and romantic, sleek and modern, or dramatic and show stopping? That answer narrows the search faster than any body shape chart.

Matching shapes to silhouettes

An A-line gown flatters almost everyone because it skims the waist and gently flares, balancing the figure. A fit and flare or trumpet gown follows the curves through the hip and is gorgeous if you want to show your shape. Ball gowns create a defined waist and a fairytale skirt, while a column or sheath suits brides who want something understated and elegant.

It is the fit, not the size

We always remind brides that the number on the tag means nothing once our alterations team gets involved. Gowns are ordered to your measurements and then tailored to you. A dress that fits beautifully through the bodice will always look better than one chosen for its size on the hanger.

Come and try a few shapes on in store. The gown you least expect is often the one that makes you cry happy tears. Browse the gowns or book an appointment with our team.
